We were handed a huge challenge in the summer of 2017 when Memorial Hall was deemed unfit for use. The Wyoba Board had been very aware the building was failing, but the timing was a little quicker than we had hoped.
Together we had raised $17,000 over the last three WyobaFests for a new snack shack, and we were in the middle of a strategic master plan. We had a good start to the problem of Memorial Hall, but answers seemed to be far off.
The answer may not be as far off as we thought thanks to ‘$ x 2 x 4 =’.
‘$’ WyobaFest is a fund, and fun, raising event for Camp Wyoba. It is an opportunity for the folks of Wyoming to fellowship around the camp we love. It is an opportunity to make some money for camp doing things like having dinner and participating in the silent auction.
Example: WyobaFest starts us off on a great fundraising campaign. We raise $8,000 tonight.
‘x 2’ This winter an anonymous Wyoming, Wyoba-loving donor has come forward with an offer to match any funds raised between now and May 1st, dollar for dollar up to $20,000. So, if we raise $20,000 over the next
3 ½ months it will become $40,000. Any money raised over the $20,000 will not be matched…yet.
Example: WyobaFest is only the beginning and by May 1st $20,000 is given to Camp Wyoba. That $20,000 becomes $40,000.
‘x 4’ In July the Wyoba Board will write a grant request for the Pueblo Legacy Matching Grant with the ABCRM. If our request is approved any monies we have raised will be matched four times.
Example: We are greatly blessed and our $40,000 is matched with $160,000 becoming $200,000. Add in the $17,000 raised in the past for a total of $217,000. And if we raise $25,000, it becomes $45,000 with the Wyoba match and then becomes $225,000 with the Pueblo grant for a total of $242,000.
‘=’ We have the master plan, including plans for the new building, in hand. We have the money in hand, and our new building with snack shack and restrooms starts to become reality.
Sounds great? Absolutely, but we need to raise that money to get us started. Trusting in the Lord, give as you can and pray. The prayers of the faithful, and sovereign provision of God, have brought us this far.
I offer up this scripture which speaks to the ministry of Camp Wyoba in many ways.
‘I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.’ 1 Corinthians 1: 4 – 9
